Obituary

Elder Joye Wayne Perry, 87 of Germantown, TN, formerly of Humboldt, TN passed away at home on May 17, 2012. Elder Perry was born in Union City, TN on August 6, 1924. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army where he was a member of the 6th Ranger Infantry and a recipient of two Bronze Stars, three Bronze Service Stars, the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asian Pacific Theater Ribbon, and Philippines Liberation Ribbon. After discharge from the U.S. Army in January 1946, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. After moving his family to Memphis, TN in 1955, he worked at the W.T. Rawleigh Company, and later retired with Commonwealth Insurance Company. In his early years in Memphis, he served as a mentor with the Junior Achievement Foundation. Ordained as a Primitive Baptist Minister, for 47 years, Elder Perry pastored churches in Tennessee and Arkansas, and preached in Mississippi, Missouri and throughout the Southeast Region. He recently retired as the pastor of Marion Primitive Baptist Church in Marion, AR where he was instrumental in the development of their new church building. Elder Perry married his beloved wife of 63 years, Elois Byrd Perry, on September 2, 1948. She survives him as do their four daughters Jennifer Elaine Perry Davenport (Bill), Ella Jane Perry Putnam, Nancy Elois Perry Lubiani, Lori Ann Perry Hammond (Dean);their two sons, Jack Wayne Perry (Ruth) and John Arthur Perry (Cindy); his three sisters, Sunshine Mitchell (DC), Lovie Carter, and Sarah Garmany (Charles); 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Elder Robert E. Lee Perry and his mother Sarah Pearl Black Perry. Visitation will be Sunday, May 20 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home and Cemetery Memphis, TN. Funeral services will also be held at Forest Hill East at 10 a.m., Monday, May 21.
