Elfriede Margarete Austin, 87, a resident of Boca Raton, Florida passed away on May 9, 2018. She was born on March 11, 1931 to the late Wilhelm Conrad and Margarete Katharine Conrad in Wiesbaden Germany. After World War II while working in an American PX store, she met Air Force Serviceman Allen Austin. They were married and she immigrated to the United States in 1952 and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1955. After she became a homemaker and mother, she returned to school and became a medical laboratory technician working until she retired in 1992.

Elfriede was an avid gardener, seamstress and quilter. Some of her favorite things were music and food. Rock and roll, especially The Eagles, Pink Floyd and Bob Seeger were some of her favorites. She had a special fondness for chocolate and margaritas.

She is predeceased by her husband Allen and is survived by her children Debra Betancourt of Boca Raton, Florida; Donna Patterson of Millington, Tennessee; Allen Scott Austin of Montgomery, Alabama; their spouses Tony Betancourt and Angie Austin; grandchildren Marc Betancourt, Hunter and spouse Meg Betancourt, Derek Hoffmann, Allise Austin, Christopher Austin and great grandchildren Adrienne and Danielle. Her sister Margot Stoff of Wiesbaden Germany, her niece Beatrix and spouse Frank and grandniece Jana also survive her.

Visitation will be held on June 9, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home- East in Memphis, Tennessee with her ashes to be inurned following visitation at 2:00 pm.
