Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" G. Stoddard, 72, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, William R. Stoddard, of Bartlett, TN; son, William Stoddard; daughter-in-law, Karen Stoddard; granddaughter, Anna Stoddard and two grandsons, Ethan Stoddard and Ryan Stoddard. For many years, Elizabeth was an enthusiastic member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She held two national chairmanships and offices of 2nd Vice Regent and State Registrar of Tennessee and District Director. She was appointed Honorary Regent of the Zachariah Davies Chapter of NSDAR. She was also a member of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, the Jamestown Society, the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons and the Memphis Scottish Society. Elizabeth was an avid genealogy buff and enjoyed few things more than searching through dusty courthouse records uncovering gems of knowledge and recovering lost connections in the history of her family and friends. When Elizabeth was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2003, she and husband William became Advent Presbyterian Church Stephen Ministers, providing one-to-one Christian care to others in need. It is a testament to her strong character that she chose to help others in need just as she was entering a difficult period in her own life. Memorial Service for Elizabeth will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 21 at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road. There will be a Visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 20 at Forest Hill. Please join Elizabeth''s family and friends to celebrate her life and rejoice in the love and joy she brought to those whose lives she touched. Donations in Elizabeth''s name to Advent Presbyterian Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are appreciated. For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end. Through Jesus Christ our Savior, Amen.
