Obituary

Elizabeth Leah Eaton Murley, of Memphis, born November 21, 1927, in Memphis, TN, went to  be with Jesus on January 28, 2022. Elizabeth was the widow of Gerald Daniel Murley, SR. and  the youngest of six children born to Wilma Lorena Moore and Frank Ardel Eaton. Elizabeth met the love of her life in typing class at Messick High school and she spent the next 75 years of  her life loving Gerald.

Like Gerald, Elizabeth loved Memphis but she was more in the background. She was the wind  beneath Gerald's wings. It was her behind the scenes contributions that afforded Gerald the  time and resources to be very active in their community. Elizabeth was retired from South  Central Bell after 37 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the Pioneers. Over the  course of her life she was a member of Southern Avenue Baptist Church followed by Frayser  Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, Long Point Baptist Church, Houston, TX, Eudora Baptist Church  and Kirby Woods Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, and the WMU. She was a Messick Panther  through and through. She also taught many Sunday School and Training Union classes of  varying age groups over the years.

Above all that Elizabeth did in her life it was her roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother,  grandmother, great grandmother and aunt that she most valued. Her goal was that we would  all know and trust Jesus as Savior and Lord. And she spent many hours praying for all us. We  were her garden and she diligently tended her garden for the Lord. Long after Alzheimer's  Dementia had taken away most of her memories, or at least her ability to communicate  memories, Elizabeth still knew the melody of her favorite hymns and many of the words...she  definitely knew the meaning.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Gerald Murley, her parents, her  son Gerald Daniel Murley, Jr., 4 sisters, Wilma Harper, Francis Eaton, Dorothy Tunnel and  Virginia Sherrod, and her brother Frank (Ben) Eaton, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her  daughter Deborah Dawson (John), Memphis, daughter-in-law Joyce Hulme Murley, Franklin,  TN, grandchildren Leah And Chris Wahl, Jackson Murley, Emily Dawson, Keila and John  Dawson, Jr., and Hannah and Eric Ingram; as well as eight great grandchildren; Henry, Gemma,  Miles, Peter and Phoebe Elizabeth Wahl, Charlie and Oliver Ingram and foster great grandson  SirMichael. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

The family especially wants to thank those who loved and helped care for Elizabeth as well as  Gerald in their final years and days.
