ELLA MAE CARTER of Memphis, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Cecil and Delma Cordle. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Waymon "Doc" Carter; son, Nick Carter (Betty) of Cordova; daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Sutherlen (Jim) of Cordova; Joy Williams (David) of Bartlett; seven grandchildren, Gene Carter; Jim Carter; Stephanie Leatherwood; Mark Trusty; Chad Trusty; Steve Sutherlen; Nikki Sutherlen; fifteen great- grandchildren; and one sister, Juanita O''Connor of Portsmith, VA. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She was a member of Orchi Baptist Church. Ella enjoyed singing in her choir, bowling, sewing and sports. MaMaw will always be remembered for her strong spirit, compassion for others and love for her God and family. Her family will always remember the kindness and love shown to her by the staff at the The Highlands of Memphis. The family appreciates Crossroads Hospice helping her toward the end of her journey to Heaven.
