Elsie Jean Sieb Haynes
Chino, CA
Born in Cheltenham, PA on April 4, 1926 (Easter Sunday), and died on March 6, 2016, Chino, CA at the age of 89. Mrs. Haynes was a resident of Memphis from 1956 to 2012. She was married to Arthur A. Haynes from 1946 to 1959. Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her mother, Sadye Jeannette McQuilkin Sieb; father, John August Sieb; and brother, John Robert Sieb. She is survived by a son, Lawrence Arthur Haynes; granddaughter, Melissa Michelle Haynes Hypolite; grandson Thomas Lawrence Haynes; and great grandson Logan Jayce Hypolite.
She attended Cheltenham High School, where she was active in gymnastics and the school marching band. She briefly attended the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA), 1945-46, and worked in data processing in the early days of mainframe computers, from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Mrs. Haynes was a long time resident of Union Avenue Baptist Towers, where she was, also, night manager for several years. She was a member of First Evangelical Church for many years, and for the past 30 years has been a member of Open Door Bible Church. She studied piano from age 4, and, at BIOLA, was a piano performance major. She was a frequent piano accompanist at church, and sang in the church choir.
There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, March 29 from 1-2 p.m. with funeral services to be held on March 29 beginning at 2 p.m. at Open Door Bible Church. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis, TN 38133.
