Elsie C. Martin passed from this earth into the loving arms of her heavenly Father on September 14, 2014. She was born on May 23, 1918 in South Texas to Alma and John Horton. Mrs. Martin was eight years of age when her father passed and her mother reared her and her seven siblings to be God-fearing Christians. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her loving husband, J.W. Martin, of over 61 years and her son, Kenneth Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Howe, who cared for her during her final years, and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Martin, and granddaughters Carla Taber and Paula Boersema and great grandson Tyler Boersema. Mrs. Martin''s greatest loves were the Lord and her family. In earlier years, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, gave devotionals to a class of ladies, and helped with church functions. All who knew her described her as a fine Christian Southern lady. She will be sorely missed. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 16 until service begins at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with interment following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kirby Woods Baptist Church, Memphis, where she was a member.
