Emma Ruth Allen was born May 20, 1942, to the late John Lee and America Capers in Germantown, Tennessee. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her surviving husband James A. Allen for 52 years.
Emma accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age at New Wrights Chapel MB Church under the leadership of the late G.B. Jones. She remained a loyal and faithful member until her death. Emma retired as a manager from Top''s Bar-B-Que on Lamar.
Emma was preceded in death by two sisters, LV Campbell and Mary Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory, husband James A. Allen, one daughter Brenda Allen-Baskin of Lorton, VA; two sons James E (Bernice) Allen of Memphis, Tennessee and Bruce Allen of Woodbridge, VA; four sisters Shirley (Luster) Allen, Willie (Curtis) Finley, Parfenia Wright of Memphis, Tennessee and Lestine Maxwell of Hawthorne, California; two brother-in-laws, Garner Allen and Henry Jones of Memphis, Tennessee; one aunt Josephine Young of Memphis, Tennessee; one uncle Herbert Mitchell of Memphis, Tennessee; two sister-in-laws Christine Douglass and Dorothy (John) Smith of Memphis, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, DeAngelo and Mario Allen, Brittany (Leon) Kennedy of Memphis, Tennessee, Darius (Katie) Brown of Rosamond California; Symone and DeVante Allen of Woodbridge, Virginia and Emily Allen of Lorton, Virginia; six great grandchildren, Ajah Williams, Elijah and Eliyah Kennedy and Mario Allen Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, Joshua Allen of Woodbridge, Virginia and Thaddeus Grant Brown of Rosamond, California. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends Friday August 14, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown at 1661 South Elvis Presley Blvd. The funeral will be Saturday August 15, 2015 at 11:00 am at New Wright''s Chapel located at 3892 Knight Arnold Road, Memphis, TN 38118. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery.
