Obituary

Emma Jean Steed Morris, age 84, passed away at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital in Olive Branch, Mississippi on Monday, October 30, 2023.  She was a long-time resident of Olive Branch, MS and a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 24-years.  She is proceeded in death by her husband of 53-years, Tommy W. Morris, her son Jeffrey Wayne Morris, her parents Clarence and Mamie Steed, her brother Obie Steed, and her sister Hilda Steed.  Surviving members of her family include her two daughters Tina Morris Poppelreiter (Mike) and Melissa Morris.  Her grandchildren Katie Jarnagin (Jesse), Jeffrey Poppelreiter, and two great grandchildren Emerson and Raylon Jarnagin.  Other surviving members include three sister in-laws Brenda Morris, Debbie Hoard (Elvie) and Phyllis Metzer (Harold). Ms. Morris was born in Humphrey's county Mississippi.  She attended Louise High School and was part of the class of 1957.  She was raised in the Louise Mississippi area and in her younger years (and older) loved to come to Memphis where she knew she might run into Elvis Presley.  She had many opportunities to meet him in person as a young girl and loved sharing her stories with friends and family. Her career was at the University of Tennessee where she retired after 30-years of service there. Being the wife of a military man, Ms. Morris was a patriotic American and loved her country.  Her hobbies included traveling with family, reading, crafting, shopping, and poetry.  She was a member of the Memphis Songwriters association in the 90s. Her greatest love was spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ms. Morris was a born-again Christian.  She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl.  She enjoyed reading and studying the books of the bible.  A huge part of her legacy is the foundation she laid for her children and assuring early on they would come to know and love the Lord. Her life verse was Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary.   They will walk and not be faint."
