Ernest Donison Savoie Sr., 86, of Memphis, Retired Chief Petty Officer United States Navy, passed away Tuesday May 14th at Hardin Home Nursing Home, Savannah, TN. Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown, 1661 S. Elvis Presley Blvd. has charge. Visitation will be held Monday May 20th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with funeral service following. Burial is in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. Mr. Savoie was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church since 2010. Prior he was a member of Christian Heritage Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 40 years, where during this time he had served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and on their church board. He served for over 25 years in the United States Navy. At 17 years of age during WWII, he served on the Air Craft Carrier USS Bunker Hill CV17, our country''s flagship, which was hit by Kamikazes, and his ship was able to return home on her side. He was active military from WWII and extended into the Vietnam War. He was a former member of the Optimist Club and VFW. Mr. Savoie was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Grace Pollan Savoie of Memphis, TN. Mr. Savoie remarried in 2010 to his wife Frances Turner Savoie, who he leaves behind. He also leaves a son, Ernest D. Savoie, Jr. of Collierville, a daughter, Patricia Savoie Bailey of Germantown, two grandchildren, Sara Bailey Stewart, IT2 United States Navy, of Virginia Beach, VA and John Robert Bailey of Germantown, TN.
