Ernestine Knight Hodnett, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed into the arms of her Loving Saviour on January 17, 2012 just 4 days after she celebrated her 89th birthday. Mrs. Hodnett was born in Tulsa, OK on January 13, 1923 to her parents, Edward Lee Knight, Sr. and Gertrude Goad Knight. She and her family later moved to Dyess Colony, AR, where she met and married her beloved sweetheart, Hoyette A. Hodnett, Sr.; they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his death in 1995. Mrs. Hodnett was a homemaker most of her married life, but was also a business woman helping her husband managing the office of their Pre-Owned Automobile Dealership, Hodnett Motor Company. She was also employed by the City of Memphis where she retired. She was previously a member of Frayser Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and currently was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Mrs. Hodnett was predeceased by her two sisters, Viva Porter and Jane Fisher, both of Houston, TX. She is survived by her five children, June Keltner, Atoka, TN, Alice Hearn Hood, Bartlett, TN, Hoyette A. Hodnett, Jr. (Jean), Memphis, TN, Doris Dunavant (Dewayne), San Antonio, TX, Ronald "Ronny" Hodnett (Teri), Atoka, TN; brother, Robert C. Knight, Spring, TX and her loving brother, Edward Knight, Jr. who resided with Mrs. Hodnett for many years and has been an exceptional caregiver during her illness; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends and loved ones with visitation beginning at 12 noon - 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis, TN, 38133. Burial to follow in Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh-LaGrange Rd., Memphis, TN, 38134. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
