Obituary

Erskine was the first of two sons born to Mrs. Everjean Hope Stockard and the late Mr. Samuel Dunbar Stockard, on April 19, 1958.

Erskine Professed faith in Jesus Christ during his early teen years, first attending church at a now closed Southern Baptist Church in South Memphis. Erskine was very active in every church he ever joined. He loved music and played guitar, and enjoyed singing falsetto tenor in his early years. An avid student of the Bible, he was active in Bible studies and Sunday schools at both Golden United Methodist Church and The Healing Cathedral Disciples of Christ Church. During his late teens and early 20s he was also a part of the Jesus Explosion Bible study group. He remained active in Golden's Bible study up until his death.

Erskine was a bright student, finishing high school at Hillcrest in 1976, ranking in the top 10% of his class. During his Hillcrest years, he was active in a number of sports, including football, basketball, and track and field events. It was at Hillcrest that he met his first wife and mother of his three children. Receiving a football scholarship to Memphis State University, Erskine went on to earn a Bachelor's of Science degree in electronics technology while there. He graduated in 1981.

Erskine married Raponzil L. Drake in 1980. They were blessed with three delightful children: Elizabeth, Carroll, and Paul Erskine. While they were married for only 10 1/2 years, they remained friends from the time they were 15 and up until the time that he died.

In September 1997, Erskine wed the new love of his life, the late Casandra Faye Taylor Stockard. They were an example to their community and church in their devotion to God and each other. They enjoyed over 20 years of marriage until her passing in 2021.

Erskine was employed by TBC from 1979 to 2019 when he retired and devoted himself to his family and his faith.

Erskine loved music and he loved playing guitar & singing. More than anything, Erskine loved and cherished the relationships he built with people who loved Jesus. He enjoyed church. From youth groups, choirs, and Bible study, to work as a steward or trustee or financial officer, Erskine was happy serving in church. Erskine was known as a storyteller and a jokester. He had spontaneous wit that could put a twist on just about anything. Anyone who knew Erskine knows that Erskine had to do things in his way and on his terms.

Erskine leaves to cherish his memorable life, countless faith, family members across two churches, along with his mother, Mrs. Ever Jean (Hope) Stockard; three children, Mrs. Elizabeth (Michael) White of Mayfield, Kentucky; Ms. Carroll Stockard of Lincoln,

Nebraska; Paul-Erskine Drake Stockard, JD; five granddaughters: Kaleigh, Chelsea, Aella, Shelby, Alexis;  one brother, Garry Earl Stockard; one nephew, Garry Stockard, Jr., mother in law, Bettie Taylor, and a host of in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his dear friends.
