Ethel Cowart Schmidt, daughter of Joseph Cotton Cowart and Anna Fletcher Cowart, was born on April 9th, 1924 in Merigold, Mississippi and passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her 13 siblings and her son Bobby.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ethel moved to Memphis, TN when she was 19 years old to attend Business College. She pursued a career in business management and eventually worked for an Army contractor in Chicago and later for the Navy in San Diego, California.
In both posts she received numerous awards for outstanding service. While living in California she started studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. On April 26, 1980 she was baptized in symbol of her dedication to Jehovah. Later she became a full-time Bible teacher. She also had a special Quit Smoking program which had helped her in California which she later used to help Bible students from which 28 persons successfully graduated.

Ethel loved her family and had many close friends. She was a very loving and affectionate person. She was of help to many people as evidenced by the many thank you cards which she kept. Ethel's sweet smile and the way her eyes lit up when she received visitors will truly be missed. The sweet crinkle in her nose when she received Hershey's chocolates or flowers said in a much larger way "thank you" than words could express. We all will miss our precious Ethel.
