Obituary

Evelyn Ola Luther Contini went to be with the Lord on January 9th, 2016. She passed away from God''s gift of old age. Evelyn was born to Emmett Raines Luther and Vennie Droke on May 28th, 1923 in Memphis, TN. She was married to John Vincent Contini Sr. who passed away in 1964 and was an Italian native. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Charles "Puggie" Luther and two sisters Mina "Sugar" Luther and Lurline Gail Gross. Evelyn is also survived by her two sons, John Vincent Contini and George Angelo Contini Sr. Services for Evelyn will be held at Forrest Hill Cemetery''s South location at 2545 East Holmes Road, Memphis, TN 38118. Visitation will held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, January 13th at this location with funeral services to take place on January 14th at 10:00 am.
Evelyn was more affectionately known as "Toot" by her grandchildren and immediate family because she said, "No one calls me Grandma!", and no one did! We can recall when a doctor called her "Grandma" after she suffered a heart attack at age 86 and the doctor was quickly corrected by Evelyn what we had all heard so many times, "Don''t call me Grandma!". Evelyn has always looked for work that allowed her to be outdoors or helping people with their health. At age 50 she became a forestry ranger because of h.er love of birds and was an avid bird watcher. Evelyn''s favorite bird was the humming bird for which she always had multiple humming bird feeders. She later became a health food consultant for a short time before she settled down in Mississippi with her son John Contini and began working with children at the local school as a teacher''s assistant which she continued to do until age 85. Evelyn then decided at age 85 she needed to care for the elderly and became a Certified Nurse Assistant after successfully passing the exam. After declining health, Evelyn retired from working at age 88 and began caring for her plants, watching the humming birds, and feeding the animals around her home which included a raccoon, turtle, and a fox who I know will surely miss her and the goodies she left for them.
Evelyn also leaves behind her five grandchildren Angelo, Clay, Maria, Hannah and Jennifer as well as six great grandchildren. "Toot" will be missed by us all as we know that God has gained another Angel.
