Obituary

Faye Rorie Cook, 84, of Cordova, TN went home on September 13, 2018 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.

Faye was a true renaissance woman in Memphis.  She was the first female Contractor licensed by the State of Tennessee, where she owned and operated Memphis Home Improvement for 53 years before retiring at the ripe age of 82 when her granddaughter finally said, "it's time".  Her passion was remodeling, and she particularly enjoyed the bonus of being a part of her customers' families and helping them re-imagine their homes.  She served a one-year term as President of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) and was chosen in 1997 as the top remodeler for the State of Tennessee by the "Top 50 Remodelers".  She also served on the Better Business Bureau Board of Directors for 25 years and hosted a popular home improvement radio show on WMC AM 79 for 15 years. She was HG radio before there was HGTV!  Faye loved remodeling and building.  She had a very giving spirit and never forgot her humble beginnings in New Albany, Mississippi.  She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Memphis, TN for over 50 years, and even rebuilt the church's parish hall after it was damaged by a flood.  She never failed to see a need and meet a need.

Faye was predeceased by her parents, S.B. and Liz Rorie; husband James A. Cook and two brothers Dewey Rorie and Bob Rorie.  She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Cook-Kachmarik of Miami, Fla. and Judy Cook Cummings of Lakeland, Tenn.; grandchildren: Amanda Maness, George Kachmarik and Jenavieve Kachmarik; sister-in-law, Melba Ruth Rorie and nephews: Gary Rorie and Buddy Rorie.

Memorial services will be held on September 19 th at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1508 S. White Station Road, Memphis, TN at 12 p.m.  A private burial will follow.

Memorial donations can be made to the Better Business Bureau, 3693 Tyndale Rd., Germantown, TN.  Faye was passionate about her service to the BBB and the BBB's dedication to fostering strong business ethics and inclusiveness in the local business community.
