IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florence Alene
Peppers
February 17, 1940 – September 25, 2024
Florence Alene (Hartwick) Peppers 84, of Memphis passed away on September 25, 2024. She was born on February 17, 1940, in Swifton, AR to Golden Elehue and Bessie (Proctor) Hartwick. She started life with a large family, helping with chores and caring for her younger siblings. While working in the cotton fields, she met a young boy named R.V. Peppers. They married in 1956 and started a family. She was a wonderful wife, homemaker, and mother to both her own children and to her community. You could always expect great Southern dishes and incredible baked goods, like her world-famous biscuits and gravy. Their home was always welcoming to all, and she enjoyed being near her family. Florence was encouraging daily to those she loved. Without her, we would not be the people we are today.
Florence made sure her children were in attendance for church, school, and sports. She loved God and wanted her children to be raised in the lessons of the Bible that she grew up knowing. She taught the importance of helping the family and others, as she always did. Her family will remember her as a loving mother, caring wife, and amazing Mamaw, great grandma, and great-great grandmother. She was accepting, feisty, energetic, and hard-working. She was truly a woman of faith, devoted to God first and then her family.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years R.V. Peppers, her grandson Rickey Peppers Jr., her mother and father Bessie and Golden Elehue Hartwick, sister Lila Hinman, brother Cecil Hartwick, sisters Wilma Peppers, Margie Peppers, Gladys Simpson, Barbara Sessions, and brother Don Hartwick.
Florence is survived by her children Marilyn Elam, Rickey Peppers Sr., Doug Peppers, Vickie Martin, Robert Peppers, and Roger Peppers; 8 grandchildren, Carolyn Manning, Joey Peppers, Chris Martin, Carla Karch, Jon Peppers, Brandon Peppers, Courtney Peppers, and Alex Peppers; 18 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, her sister Maeola Simpson, brothers Raymond Hartwick, Neal Hartwick and Herman Hartwick.
