Obituary

Fred (Buddy) Allen Flowers, age 85 of Olive Branch, MS passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023. He was born in Cleveland, MS on March 19, 1938, to Charles and Mary Kate Flowers. He is a graduate of Whitehaven High School and briefly attended The University of Arkansas. He married Betty Gayle Simpler in 1958 and they were happily married for 41 years. He helped manage the family business, Brookhaven Lumber Company, known later as The House of Clocks as well as being a general contractor. Buddy and Gayle were members of the American Kennel Club (AKC) where they raised and showed champion Chihuahuas. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church and was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America eventually becoming Scoutmaster and later in life, he volunteered as an Assistant Scoutmaster for another troop. He as an avid antique clock collector, enjoyed fishing, travelling and later in life became a BINGO enthusiast. For the last four years, he lived at Culpepper Place of Olive Branch where he made many friends among the staff and residents. He was affectionately known as "Oscar the Grouch".

Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Simpler Flowers, his parents Charles and Mary Kate Flowers, and his sister-in-law, Jane White Flowers. He is survived by his son, Keith Allen Flowers, daughter, Kristi Gayle Flowers, and their respective partners, Curtiss John Vavra and Nancy Carol Martin. He is also survived by three brothers: Charles (Chuck) Flowers, Calvin Flowers, and wife Jamie, and Mitch Flowers and wife Brenda along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
