Obituary

G.C. Collins, 94, of Cordova, TN, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2013. He grew up in Marked Tree and Harrisburg, Arkansas. His father was a farmer and wanted him to be a farmer. However, after following behind a team of mules for many years, he decided to go to Memphis for more opportunity. During his lifetime, he witnessed the floods on the Mississippi River in 1927 and 1937, the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression of 1932. After having various jobs in the construction industry, he founded the G.C. Collins Contracting Company. He was past president of Farrisview Industrial Park, Gary-Mike Equipment Rentals, Mid-South Chapter of the Associated General Contractors and the Gideon''s central camp. He was a startup partner in Quality Concrete Pipe Co. and Neshoba Bank. He received Christ on February 26, 1950. His priority in life was serving the Lord, giving a witness to anyone that would listen and giving out Gideon bibles. For the Pentecostal Holiness Church, he served 14 years on the board at Southwestern College in Oklahoma and 4 years on the World Mission Board. He was a deacon for Christian Heritage Church for 24 years before joining First Assembly of God Church. He was an avid fisherman and camper. He was a former Marine and served in WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Collins, who died April 1, 2008. They were married for 68 years. He leaves three daughters, Joanne Campbell, Brenda Collins and Pat Prendergast; one son, Gary Collins, and daughter-in-law, Susan Collins, all of Memphis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation and funeral services will be held on July 24, 2013 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home on Whitten Road. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and burial to follow at Forest Hill.
