Obituary

Garrett J. Williamson, 100, passed away on September 14, 2020. Mr. Williamson was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 24, 1919. He graduated from, Southside High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, stationed in Italy. He was an aircraft mechanic 66 years and received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award presented by the Federal Aviation Administration in honor of Charles Taylor, the first aviation mechanic in powered flight. He enjoyed his WWII Bomber Group Annual Reunions with the 463 rd Heavy Bomb Group. He also enjoyed his friends that accompanied him at the numerous dances across the Memphis area every month, in particular Miss Pat, his girlfriend. He told family that he had a wonderful life, and did things that most people never dreamed of. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2020 at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park Midtown. Survivors include his daughter Gwin Williamson Ferguson of Olive Branch, MS, sons Andy Williamson of Olive Branch, MS, and Jeff Williamson (Debra) of Manhattan, KS, grandchildren Jennifer Hood, Jason Hood, Libby Swafford, Lexie McNeill, Drew Williamson, Benjamin Williamson, Kirby Williamson, Riley Williamson, Keegan Hood, Justin Fulcher, Anna Fulcher, Leo Swafford, Ella McNeill, Nora McNeill, Stone McNeill, River McNeill, KayLee Hood, Tucker Hood, Lydia Williamson, Garrett Williamson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forever Young Veterans, 185 S. Center St. #110, Collierville, TN 38017 www.foreveryoungvets.org .
