Mrs. Gene Elaine Dlugach, 74, a career educator and speech therapist with the Memphis City Schools, passed away Tuesday from complications of Alzheimer''s Disease. Originally from Little Rock, AR, she earned a bachelor''s degree in education at Henderson State Teacher''s College and a master''s degree in speech pathology from Memphis State University School of Audiology. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators and a long time member of Saint Luke''s United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed volunteering for community outreach programs and food ministries. A lover of gardening, art and musical theatre, she also worked as a volunteer for Friends of the Orpheum. Mrs. Dlugach is survived by her husband of fifty years, Samuel Gilbert Dlugach, daughter Kristian Elaine Dlugach, son Samuel Benjamin Dlugach, mother Rosa Allene Wells, brother Jack Damon Wells, two nieces and five grandchildren. Service for Mrs. Dlugach will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15th at Saint Luke''s United Methodist Church, 480 South Highland Street in Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts to the American Heart Association.
