GEORGE LEE ALSUP, SR.
George Lee Alsup, Sr. 95, of Bartlett, TN passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born October 6, 1928, in Bassfield, MS, the only child of Jack and Ella Mae Alsup. He grew up in and attended school in Vicksburg, MS

He met and married Leona McCowan in Oak Grove, LA on August 16, 1946. They lived in Lufkin, TX briefly before moving to Bartlett, TN in 1949, where they lived until their death. George died of a broken heart two days after his bride of 76 years. George started working at the Commercial Appeal as a printer in 1949 and moved up the ranks and retired in Dec. 1994 as a foreman of the composing room. He
always said, "he put the paper to bed".

Mr. Alsup was preceded in death by his parents, his son, George Lee (Butch) Alsup, Jr., and his wife Leona.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Forest Hill cemetery in Bartlett, TN with Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating. Forest Hill Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements.
