George L "Cotton/Coach" Stewart of Olive Branch, MS, passed away October 4, 2017. He was born September 10, 1942 and was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Everdean and his brother Bobby. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years (Peggy), son Scott (Leanne), granddaughter (Holley), grandson (Sam), brothers Calvin (Maxine) and Jerry (Pat), nieces, nephews, sisters in law, brothers in law, and friends. We would like to thank his best friend of 48 years, Donnie "Digger" Colbert and his primary care doctor of 23 years, Robert Humphreys.
George grew up in the small town of Cedarview just outside Olive Branch. He graduated from Olive Branch High School. During his high school years, he drove a school bus route and helped his father with their dairy farm. He retired from the Memphis Fire Department after 26 years of service and 20 years later from Freightliner Truck Lines. He was a longtime youth basketball and baseball coach for Pendleton Recreation. He was a hard worker and an avid Ole Miss fan. He had a big heart and would do anything for anyone. He loved to kid and carry on with people. We will miss him greatly.
