George DeVore, Jr., 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He was born April 13, 1929 in Collierville, TN, the son of Ethel and George DeVore, Sr. George served in the Army Air Corp for two years before marrying Elizabeth Garrett of Bloomfield, MO on January 14, 1950. George worked at Fruehauf Trailer Co. where he retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of Kensington Baptist Church and a mason at Park Avenue Masonic Lodge. George enjoyed fishing and hunting and also had a love for gardening and building birdhouses. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth DeVore; his beloved cat, Monkey; one sister, Hazel Maxine Fisher and many dear and close friends. George was preceded in death by his son Larry Bruce DeVore, his parents, Ethel and George DeVore, Sr., and four brothers, Bill, Jack, Melvin and Raymond DeVore. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2013 with services to follow at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill South Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
