George Morris Gibbons went to join the Lord on May 9, 2018.  He was born on December 4, 1922 in Newbern, TN and lived on a farm.  In 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy to serve his county.  He was an Aviation Machinist 3 aboard the USS Chandeleur.  The ship was instrumental in rescuing U.S. Military who were stranded at sea from downed aircraft and boats.  Mr. Gibbons served his county until 1944 when he returned to Memphis.

Mr. Gibbons opened Gibbons Supply in 1958 which was a very successful heating and air conditioning supply house.  He loved to talk and was a great salesman.  He forged many friendships throughout the years because he was just a good man.  Mr. Gibbons has been an active member of Germantown Baptist Church for over 30 years.  He seldom missed a Sunday going to Church and loved the communion that he had with the people there.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed pheasant hunting with his friends every year.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Gibbons; daughter, Tonya Handwerker; stepchildren, Carolyn Blackburn, Ricky Wolfe, Marilyn Dyson; grandson, Christopher Brandt (spouse Denise Millard Brandt); Danielle Welcher (spouse Andrew Welcher); and 4 great-grandchildren, Coleman Brandt, Grayson Brandt, Conner James Welcher, Ava Grace Welcher.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1-2:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.   All services and interment will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East.

Pop will be greatly missed by his family, as he was the best husband, father, and grandfather that anyone could ask for.  His family is at peace knowing that he will have a new body in Christ and he will be waiting for us all.
