Obituary

George Alvin Hinsley, age 92, went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2015, in Brownsville, TN. He was formerly from Memphis, TN. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a full life centered on family, faith, and friends. Alvin was born on July 2, 1922 in Allen Station, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents and all ten of his siblings.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Blanche Bourne Hinsley, and sons, Larry (Sharon) of Tallahassee, FL, and Dan (Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ. Joining the family in grief are his granddaughters, Laura Hinsley Rabakon (Michael) of Austin, TX, (great grandchild, Russell Alan Mann) and Amy Hinsley of Austin, TX. He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

During his long church life he was a deacon at many Baptist churches: Keeling, Bethel Grove, East Park, Colonial, and Briarcrest Baptist churches. His faith will live on through his precious legacy. He was a current member of Trinity Baptist Church, Brighton, TN, where he was much beloved. Alvin served his country during WW II in the Army Air Corp. His long career in retail began at Bry's Department Store and continued for many years as toy department, sporting goods, and luggage buyer/manager at Goldsmith's (Macy''s) in Memphis, TN.

Alvin loved camping with his family. They visited 49 states and Canada in their RV. One of his favorite pastimes was board and card games. He was a master checker player. He loved gardening and growing lovely daylilies. He enjoyed sharing his bounty with friends and family.

Alvin shared over nine decades of joy with everyone who knew him. An honorable gentleman throughout his life, Alvin will be especially remembered by those who knew him for his graciousness and the kindness he exhibited to all he encountered. He made friends easily, always having a good word to say about everyone he met. He was a man of principles and integrity who lived an exemplary life. Alvin was the epitome of a true Southern gentleman with unwavering care and love for his family.

The family wishes to express everlasting gratitude to the administrator, nurses, and staff at Sugar Creek Senior Living Community in Brownsville, TN, for their attentiveness and diligent professional care of Alvin.

Funeral services and burial will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 2:00 PM. at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN, 38133. The service will be lead by Pastor Bill Cox of Trinity Baptist Church. Viewing-visitation will be on Tuesday, April 14, from 5 to 7:00 PM at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East.
