George E. Holmes III, April 16, 1926 - June 1, 2016. Anyone who had a conversation about life with George Holmes knew what a grateful man he was. He had unlimited gratitude for his many blessings and deep love for his family.George grew up in Earle, Arkansas during the Depression, the only son of Ed and Wilda Holmes. After serving in the army during World War II and graduating from the University of Arkansas, George married Jean Anderson, also from Earle, in 1951. George, a CPA, and Jean, an attorney, shared office space in Germantown for much of their fifty-five-year marriage while raising their five children- Andrea Holmes Lugar (Larry), George "Geo" Holmes IV, Heather Holmes Andersen (Erik), Jan Holmes Crosby (Rick Griffith), and Stewart Anderson Holmes (Wendy). Jean died in 2006 and Geo died in 2014.Papa George, as he was known to his grandchildren, always lit up whenever he saw any of his eight grandchildren- Geordan Lugar (Ashley), Marda Lugar Mesler (Toby), Hanne Andersen, Meg Andersen, Tate Crosby, Nell Crosby, Anderson Holmes, Audrey Holmes- and his great grandson Roman Lugar.The Holmes family will commemorate his life on June 18th at 2:00 pm at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown located at 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the organization of your choice or The Geo Holmes Production Award Fund at The University of Memphis.
