Horn Lake - George "Sonny" LaValle Carlisle, 76, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Sonny was born August 26, 1938 in Memphis, TN. After graduating from Southside High School in 1956, he joined the United States Marines Corps, serving as NATO security in Naples, Italy. He continued to love all things military and enjoyed volunteering with the Anderson Jordan Marine Corps League and the American Legion. He later started and ran the George Carlisle Insurance Agency, before retiring early to travel and enjoy life. Which he did to its fullest until his health slowed him down. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carlisle; two children, John Boyuka (Kathy) and Stephanie Boyuka DeSaix (Hank); two granddaughters, Jessica Boyuka and Shelby Boyuka; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves two loving dogs, Dewey and Dixie, who never left his side. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, George LaValle Carlisle, Sr. and Vivian Margaret Smith Carlisle; a sister, Barbara Stovall; and two brothers, Tommy Carlisle and Aubrey Carlisle. The service will be conducted by Brian Carlisle, Sonny's nephew, who serves as minister at Faith Baptist Church in Arlington, TN, where Sonny was a member. Brian and his brother, Shawn Carlisle were very close to him. Visitation will be held Friday, October 3, from 5-7 p.m., and funeral services will be Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. The family asks that memorials be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children''s Hospital.
