Obituary

George E. Wade Jr. "Granddaddy", 88, born in Memphis, TN. went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 27, 2025. A kind and gentle man, he adored his family and offered his home as a place of refuge, fun, and relaxation. Overflowing with love and laughter, there was no place on Earth like his home as family gatherings were anticipated with excitement.

George was born in Memphis, TN. on Dec. 8th, 1936. He graduated from Catholic High in 1955 and went on to complete his Bachelors' degree in Accounting at Christian Brothers College. He later married his childhood sweetheart, Mary, in 1958 and served four years in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1962.

Shortly after graduating from college, George went to work for Malone and Hyde as an accountant. He later joined a business partnership and opened three Big Star grocery stores (two of them in Memphis). He retired as owner and CEO of Wade's of Memphis.

George was preceded in passing by his wife: Mary E. Wade, his Mother and father: (George E. Wade Sr. and Altye Katharyn Wade), his sister: Annette Julia Wade, his brother: Donald Franklin Wade, his two sons: Mark Joseph Wade and Michael Patrick Wade.

He leaves behind: his daughters: Teresa Jordan (Ken) and Mary Elizabeth Lisa Wade, his sons: George Wade III (Donna) and John Leonard Wade (Tonya), his daughter-in-law: Sandy Wade McConnell (Mike), his Grandchildren: Elizabeth Mann (Michael), Jay Lyles, Heather Adams (Jesse), George Wade IV (Audrey), Annie Kelly (Devin), Allie Ginn (Connor), Tiffany Leuck (Chris), Natalie Ward (Chris), Valerie Caldwell (John), Michael Wade(Susan), Matthew, Mitchell , Meagan, MaKenzi , Joshua, Sophia, Jordan, Angelina, and Jace. He also leaves behind 32 great grandchildren.

He appreciated and cherished his friends Mel, Bill, Jack and Tom.  He loved watching the rain from his porch, bowling, archery, martial arts, science, nature, astronomy and travel.  He adored all of his family and had a birthday app so he could call everyone and let them know how much he loved them. Most important to him was Jesus and he said he kept trying to hang on one more day to tell one more person about Jesus.  He was a wonderful, kind, loving man that could always be trusted to stand for truth and honor.  He gave everything to help others.

Everyone will miss you George Wade.
