Georgia Lee Herring Lackey passed away on January 24, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis Tennessee at the age of 84 after a brief illness. Georgia was born in Memphis Tennessee on July 13, 1938 and graduated from Messick High School in 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James A. Lackey, her mother Maggie Lee Herring, and her father George Davis Herring. She is survived by her sons David James Lackey and Stephen Michael Lackey, her brothers Donald Eugene Herring, D. Jefferson Herring, John Stanley Herring, George Herring, and sister Rebecca Earnhart. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amber, Meghan, Connor, and Stephanie as well as great grandchildren Luke, Simeon, Ryan, and Zoe, and many other beloved family and friends.

Georgia was a Christian woman who looked forward to being reunited with her husband and other loved ones in heaven. She spent many years dedicated to her church and teaching young girls through Girls Auxiliary programs. Georgia was a devoted wife and homemaker. She is remembered for always making Christmas special and her love of dogs. In her younger years she enjoyed music, crafts, and antiquing. In her letter years she loved researching family history years and documented its history going back to the year 1530. Georgia was a voracious reader and student of history, especially that of England.

A visitation for Georgia will be held at 12:30 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Forest Hill Funeral Home on Whitten Road followed by a funeral service.
