Gerald R. Owens, Sr., 90, passed away after a short illness on April 23, 2018.  He died peacefully in his sleep, only 18 days after his wife of 68 years, Betty, passed away.  He was born in Memphis, TN on October 15, 1927, to the late James and Inez Owens.  After serving his country with distinction in the U.S. Army as a World War II veteran, he began his career as a real estate broker, from which he was retired. He loved fishing with his son and grandson, as well as gardening.  And he was an avid baseball fan, always rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty J. Owens, formerly of Memphis, TN; and a brother Beverly Ray Owens (Diana Owens).  He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Gerald R. Owens, Jr., and his wife, Cari; and his grandson, James Andrew "Drew" Owens and his wife, Sandra.  His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2018.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on Friday.  All services are entrusted to Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN, 38133.  The family requests that those wishing to honor the memory of Mr. Owens to make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project in his name.
