Gladys Louise Jones, age 97 of Hernando, MS, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024.  A native of Winona MS, she was the daughter of the late James Floyd Box and Ila Mae Bennett Box.  Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Kelsie E. Jones, Sr. and sisters Adell Ward, Frances Smith, Mozelle Ingram, Vivian O'Steen, Inez Fitzgerald, Myrtle Safrit, Jean Box, and Jane Box.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Monica Needham.

Mrs. Jones is survived by sons Kelsie E Jones, Jr. (Deborah) of Nolensville, TN and Larry James Jones (Lois) of Hernando MS; grandchildren James Hope, Stacey Bruner (Jimmy), David Needham Jr. (Brandy), Brian Jones (Kyoko), Taylor Jones, Bradley Jones (Leslie), Chris Jones (Jennifer), Larry Jones, Jr. (Tiffany), Kevin Newsom (Heidi) and Terry Newsom (Alexis); and by a host of great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 9 -10 AM at Forest Hills Funeral Home at 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis TN 38133.  The funeral service begins at 10 AM, with Rev. Brian Hood officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill South on Holmes Road in Memphis.

Affectionately called "Doot", Mrs. Jones was the daughter of sharecroppers, but left Delta cottonfields to be wed in Indiana after WWII.  She worked for a time at an RCA plant while her husband quarried limestone.  The couple ended up in Memphis, where Gladys was for many years an account clerk at Sears Roebuck while Kelsie was part of campus security at MSU.  Gladys enjoyed time with her family, reading, gardening and travel (mostly road trips with her children).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassus Living Foundation, the charitable arm of Compassus Hospice.
