Gordon was born in Chicago, Illinois, September 21, 1945. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, a few years later and settled in the Highland Heights area. He attended Treadwell High School and played football in the 9th and 10th grade.
On September 22, 1962, he joined the Navy and went to "Boot Camp" in San Diego, California. From there he went to Treasure Island, San Francisco, to attend Radarman "A" School. After completion of school, he was assigned to the Navy ship, U.S.S. Duxbury Bay and headed to the Middle East. When his Navy Active Duty was over, he was Honorably Discharged on November 16, 1966. He then joined the Naval Reserve Center in Memphis for 10 more years where he was Honorably Discharged as an Operational Specialist, Petty Officer First Class.
Gordon began his Law Enforcement Career on January 10, 1967, with the Shelby County Sheriff Department. Over his career, he was assigned to several divisions; Patrol, Jail, Courts, Investigations, Civil, Narcotics, and with the Federal Bureau of Investigations Task Force. After 26 years of service, he retired as a Sergeant.
Gordon was married to his loving wife, Doris, for 45 years until she passed away from a stroke in December 03, 2019. Both were active members at Christ Church in Bartlett for many years. They have 1, grown and married son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Angie, and two grown granddaughters.
In May of 2023, Gordon became ill. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and spent the next 6 months being treated in the hospital. He was then released to a nursing facility in hospice where he succumbed to his illness on November 17, 2023.
