Obituary Helen Jane (Hill) Davis
Long time Bartlett resident and Bartlett High School teacher Helen Jane (Hill) Davis left us to be with the Lord on September 14, 2021. She was 90 years young. Helen Jane was born in Memphis on July 4, 1931 and raised in the Paden community in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. She was a 1950 graduate of Paden High School where she played basketball and earned a 4H scholarship which took her to Mississippi State College for Women. Graduating in 3 years she received a degree in nutrition to Memphis TN, where she worked for several institutions including West Tennessee TB Hospital. In 1955 she married James R. Davis and soon started a family. In 1960 the family placed membership at Bartlett Baptist Church and moved to the outskirts of Bartlett after building a house on land they bought from the Moser family. In a couple of years, she started teaching Home Economics at nearby Bartlett High School. In 1972 she earned a Masters Degree from Ole Miss in Marketing. Soon after she started teaching Distributive Education and was the faculty sponsor of D.E.C.A. until she retired from Bartlett High .
In retirement she and husband J.R. traveled to Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. They were snowbirds in south Texas for many years as well. They loved and adored their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by James R. Davis of Bartlett, her husband of 60 years, her parents James Martin Hill and Alta Belle (South) and brother Marion (Sonny) Mayo Hill, all of Paden MS.
She is survived by son Russ (Kim) Davis of Lebanon, TN, and daughter Suzanne (Greg) Williams of Lakeland, TN; grandchildren Amanda (Dom) Polman, Sheridan (Jake) Whicker, Kendal (Adam) Martin, and Rose Davis; great-grandchildren Drew and Asher Polman, and Ellie, Annabelle, and Sam Whicker.
She is also survived by beloved cousins Billy Brent Wilson of Paden MS, Forest Dickinson of Mobile AL, sisters-in-law Pat Davis of Memphis TN, Sarah Sullivan of Germantown TN,many nieces and nephews, and many friends at Ave Maria assisted living in Bartlett TN with whom she embraced their faith.
Helen Jane Davis will be interred at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill/ Irene Rd. Memphis TN 38125 at a later date with her husband a Korean War Veteran. Site LL22257
