Helen Magree Fones passed peacefully from this life at her home with family and her beloved "Boy Kitty" at her side on September 24, 2013. Born in Chicago, IL on July 23, 1914, she lived most of her life in Memphis. Helen was an avid reader and lover of nature, animals and the outdoors. Even at age 99, she took Boy Kitty out on a leash for his backyard adventure every morning. Helen found great joy in going for long walks, especially in the woods and preparing wonderful meals for her large family. Everyone was always welcomed with great kindness at her table. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Fones and his wife, Gradine, and her sister Doris Karp. Helen is survived by her children, David Fones, Jean Manspeaker, Howard Fones (Nancy Finerson), Linda Kelly (Ray) and Karen Johnson (Robert). She leaves 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Memphis Humane Society. Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28 immediately followed by a graveside service at Forest Hill East Funeral Home and Cemetery.
