HELEN PHILLIPS STEWART
When you think of Helen, you feel her gentleness, love, and grace. Her love for our Father was shared to all not only by mouth, but in how she raised her three children, interacted with everyone, how she lived her life from the time she was a child until she entered her eternal home with our Lord on October 8, 2026, at the age of 98.
Helen, a resident of Southaven, MS was born on May 3, 1928. Helen was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She served as an anchor to her family, a faithful member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ for many years and lived her life with a pure heart with purpose, sacrifice, and total dedication to her church, and family. In high school, she played basketball. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family, caring for her local grandchildren when they were little, spending time with all her family, cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies, and she looked forward to playing her weekly card game with her friends.
She is survived by her three children, daughter, Carolyn “Elaine” Jones; son, Charles R. Stewart (Anita); and son, James W. Stewart; her six grandchildren, Jamie Jenkins, Jesse Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Katie Kettler (Blayton), Sarah Stewart, and Nathan Stewart; her three great-grandchildren, Valerie Stewart, Cora Kettler, and Cohen Kettler; her brothers Bobby Phillips, and Lawrence Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her three children, James R. Stewart; son-in-law David L. Jones (Elaine); parents, Charlie E. Phillips and Katie Lou Phillips; brothers, James Phillips, and Melvin Phillips.
Visitation will be held at 10a.m. on October 16, 2026, at Goodman Oaks Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 11a.m., with interment immediately following at Forest Hill Memorial Park – South, 2545 E. Holmes Rd., Memphis, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be considered for Goodman Oaks Church of Christ, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
