Apr 29, 1933 — Jan 31, 2022
Henry L. Farrar, Jr. – also known as Coach and "Sonny"– passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord early on Monday, January 31 st following a brief illness.
He was born on April 29 th , 1933, to the late Henry L. Farrar, Sr. and Maybelle Franklin Farrar in Washington D.C. Following his parent's divorce, Henry came to live with his Grandmother Sammie Loggins Farrar and his Aunt Adiola & Uncle Charles Cowan in Yorkville, TN when he was 7 years old.
Henry attended and graduated from Yorkville High School in 1952. He attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee @ Martin and the Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville. He was drafted and served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1958. He then began his 30-year teaching career where he taught various subjects and coached High School girls' basketball.
Upon his retirement, Henry enjoyed travelling with friends to various professional baseball stadiums across the country. He was also seen often at local High School basketball games where he scouted for other coaches, and he was an avid Lady VOLS Basketball fan. Henry always enjoyed visiting with friends and he was a fierce competitor and champion in "washer-pitching." He was a lifelong member and Elder of the Yorkville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and later joined Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, TN. He will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, his friendly nature, his deep Christian faith, and his kindness to everyone he met.
Henry married Wanda Nichols Farrar on June 15, 2007 at the age of 74 and they were able to enjoy travelling with friends and had a beautiful companionship for nearly 20 years. During this time, Henry and Wanda enjoyed their larger family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren – especially as they moved to Bartlett and lived with their daughter, Rhonda Nichols Sinquefield, for the past 7 years.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Nichols Farrar, by 38 days. He leaves a lifetime of friends, extended family, and a loving family that he "adopted" as his own. These include Wanda's children, Margie & John Gill, Mike & Cindy Nichols, Rhonda & Danny Sinquefield, and David & Anna Nichols. He was also deeply loved by his many adopted grandchildren and great grandchildren.
