HERMAN MARSHALL LONG "Poppy", 91, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Evelyn Long; daughters, Margaret Blankenship (Gary) and Donna Long; grandson, Marshall Thomas; sister, Christine Havens. Mr. Long is a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, a member of Cherokee Baptist Church and worked as an over the road truck driver with Spector/Red Ball for 33 years. If wealth was defined by the number of hearts and lives touched amongst friends, family and people from all walks of life, Poppy was indeed the richest person in the world. The family wants to thank Dr. Margaret Gore and the staff of Integrity Oncology and Baptist Trinity Hospice for the excellent compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23 with service at 2 p.m., Thursday, both at Forest Hill South. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are sent to: The American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital or the charity of the donor''s choice.
