Hilma "Louise" Newton (known to some as Hampy or Grandmother) passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on August 22, 2026 at the age of 87. She lived in Horn Lake, MS and was a member of Hinds Chapel Methodist church.
She was born May 18, 1939 to Irene Chapman Jones and William Ray Jones of Coffeeville, MS. She was one of eight children. Growing up she worked with her family on their farm and helped with her younger siblings.
After she graduated high school, she moved to Memphis, TN and attended Cosmetology school. She married Robert Newton and had one child, Kim. As a young mother she was very active in church, working as a school monitor at Calvary Temple Academy. She loved children and always had many around her.
Her family moved to Horn Lake, Ms in 1980. she worked as cosmetologist along side her dear friend, Carolyn Bates. She continued to support Kim through all her school years.
Hilma's greatest blessing was when she became a grandmother to David "Ryan" Cook. She spent so much time caring for him and taking him and his friends to camp, hunting and fishing and then growing into young men.
After her husband, Robert passed, she started volunteering at Good Samaritan's in Horn Lake. She enjoyed being with her church friends, watching movies, reading and spending as much time with her family as possible.
She was later blessed with two great grandchildren, Harper Louise and Reed Morgan. She could never spend enough time with them They were her whole world. She expressed how blessed she was to have been able to have them in her life.
Ms Newton was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Ray Jones; Her husband of 53 years, Robert Earlwin Newton; a brother, Rusty Jones and two sisters, Anita Turner and Lennese Badley.
Ms Newton leaves behind her daughter, Kimberly (Rickey) Cook of Horn Lake, MS; her Grandson and family, David Ryan Cook (Danielle, Harper and Reed) of Horn Lake, MS; a brother, Johnny Jones of Coffeeville, MS; three sisters, Sandra (Billy) Haynes of Sardis, MS; Dolores (Butch) Meeks of Oakland, MS; Phyllis (Steve) Hughes of Bruce, MS; and many nieces and nephews and family that she dearly loved.
