Obituary

Hugh Raymond Sharp, 84, of Byhalia, MS, passed away at his home on November 14, 2018.  Mr. Sharp worked as a pressman at the Commercial Appeal for 32 years before retirement.  As a devoted servant of the Lord, his passion was spreading the Good News of Jesus.  For many years, he taught Sunday School and coached little league sports while serving as a deacon and a choir member at Parkway Village Baptist Church.  At the time of his death, he was an active member of First Baptist Church of Collierville, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and worked in the recreation department.  He served on mission trips to India and Russia.  In his community, he served as a past President of the Memphis Storytellers League and led a support group at the Page Robbins Adult Daycare Center.  Hugh served his country with the Army National Guard.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsa Brock Sharp, and his parents, John Calvin Sharp and Norma Ruth Seaton.  He leaves his wife Evelyn, three daughters, Debra Harris (Reg), Mary Ann Ayers (Bill), and Katy Ashley (Bill); one step-daughter, Dr. Patricia McKee; one brother, John Charles Sharp, Sr.; beloved nieces, nephews, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Collierville from 10:30 am-12:00 p.m., with services immediately following.  Burial will be at Forest Hill South Cemetery.
