Irene Edwards, age 101, resident of Cordova, Tennessee went to her heavenly home on Friday, September 30, 2022 and is now face to face with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born March 28, 1921 in Coldwater, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Willie Joseph Massey and Addie Belle Droke.

Mrs. Edwards gave her life to the Lord at an early age and continued to serve him faithfully throughout her life. She was active in ministries at both Bartlett Baptist Church and later at Bellevue Baptist.

She attended elementary and high school at Whitehaven and received a bachelor's degree from what is now the University of Memphis. Upon graduation she began a long career as a loved and respected teacher, teaching French, Latin and English at Westwood High School. She continued through her 100th year to volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and Bibles For China and treasured time spent with her dear friends at Bellevue Woods.

Irene is survived by her daughter Patricia MacDonald (Bruce) and son James Edwards, Jr. (Nancy), four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Edwards Sr., her daughter Sandra Edwards, three brothers and one great-great grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Bartlett Baptist Church, 3465 Kirby Whitten Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38135 to be used for Samaritan's Purse.
