Jack Henry Artman, born September 13, 1930 in Memphis, TN died February 6, 2015. He was the son of Della May Stahmer Artman Butler and William Grant Artman. After graduating from Southside High School in Memphis, he joined the Marine Corps at 16 and served on active duty from 1946 to 1949 and again in the Reserves from 1950 to 1951. While in the Reserves and working for Southern Leather Company in 1950, he met and married his loving wife, Mary Robison Artman.
He had a varied work life as a traveling salesman, hair dresser, taxi driver and retired as a Switchman with the L&N Railroad. Jack raised cattle and enjoyed hunting deer on his land in Tippah County, MS. He served as Master of the Berclair Masonic Lodge and was part of the Shriner Transportation Team who transported ill children to Shrine Hospitals. He was a long time member of Central Christian Church serving multiple times as Board Chairman.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Artman, sister Jean Pennebaker Dando of Memphis, and brother, William Artman of Dayton, OH. He leaves his 2 daughters, Debra Goodnight (George), Janet Tenry and son, Robert Michael Artman and loving Daughter in Law, Micki Artman. He had 6 grandchildren: Wesley Goodnight, Allen Goodnight, Brian Tenry, Bradley Tenry, Katie Tenry and Clay Artman and 3 great grand children: Hayes Tenry, Ella Tenry and Logan Tenry.
Visitation with family & friends is Saturday, February 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home at 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis and the funeral and internment is at the same location on Sunday, February 8 at 1:00 pm.
