Obituary

Jack James Goode, age 86, of Nashville, TN died December 11, 2020.  His cause of death was pneumonia and other complications of Covid-19.

He was born March 12, 1934 in Ackerman MS to Sherman and Maime Goode.  He was the youngest of four boys.  From the age of 13, he had to pay his own way. He only received food and a place to sleep from his parents.

Jack married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Dawn Worrell, in 1953.  Sylvia died April 18, 2018.  He was a devout Christian, loving husband, and father. He was dearly loved and respected by his whole family and anyone else that got to know him.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, served as a deacon for several years, and then served as an elder for over 45 years. He supported Christian Education and worked hard to promote Harding Academy of Memphis.

He graduated from Memphis State College. In college he was married, worked 40 hours a week and never missed even one day of class.  He was a volunteer fireman in his early years. He began working for the Whitehaven Utility District reading water meters and worked his way up to become the City Administrator.  He held a number of management positions through his career including: Director of Budget and Finance for the City of Memphis, City Manager of Germantown TN, Manager of The Turley Company and also for the city of Lakeland.

He is survived by his children, Mark Goode of Fort Smith, AR, Maury Goode and wife Jacqueline of Tyler, TX, and daughter Marla Goode-Littlejohn of Nashville, TN.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ben Goode of Fort Smith, AR, Brett Goode and wife Monica of Bentonville, AR, Bryn Starnes and husband Mason of Tyler, TX, Brayden Goode of Reston, VA, Bonnie Goode of Tyler, TX, Savannah Littlejohn of Nashville, TN, and Zoe Littlejohn of Nashville, TN. He had three great grandchildren, Jackson Goode, Blakely Goode, and Kinsleigh Cobb.

Family meant everything to Jack. He always put family first. He loved, served, and encouraged his family up to the day he passed. He was a shining example of Godly manhood. He never met a stranger and stopped to talk with almost everyone he met and treated them with friendship and respect.

Special thanks to the staff in the Covid unit at Skyline Hospital and the staff at Vanco Nursing Home.  Also, a special thanks to all of the friends and family that have sent regrets.

These few words do not do him justice.  He was a very special person.  He will be missed.

Rest in peace, Dad.  We love you.
