Jacob Paul Gable was born on February 2, 1939 to Pauline (nee Johnson) and Wyatt Gable, Sr. in Memphis, Tennessee. He was called to his heavenly home on April 3, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wyatt Jr. and Louis; and one sister, Catherine.
He is survived by his wife Donna of 58 years; three children, Kristine, Valerie (Wilt), and Sheryl; a grandson, Jacob Wilt; two nieces, Lorrie Moore (Gary) and Debbie Trout; and a great niece, Melodie Moore.
Paul attended A. B. Hill Elementary School, and was graduated from Southside High School in 1957. After working and attending college for two years, in 1959 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged in 1962.
Upon his return to Memphis, Paul enrolled at William R. Moore School of Technology. He became interested in structural steel detailing and upon graduation began a long career in steel detailing.
In 1965, Paul was married to Donna Halstenberg at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he later served in many capacities: lead usher, financial secretary, President of PALS (PTA), and chairman of the fellowship committee. Later in life, he and his family attended Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he served on the care team and assisted in preparing bulletins for use in the worship services.
Paul was an avid square dancer for many years. He loved his family, his church, people, travel, reading, and potlucks.
Services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 5296 Park Ave., Memphis, TN on Tuesday, April 11th. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, a graveside service with military honors will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park - East.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be directed to Christ the King Lutheran Church and School.
