Obituary

Carl Jacob Barton, Jr (Jake) age 95 of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on January 3, 2026. He was born and raised in the Hollywood area of Memphis to the late Carl and Hattie Barton.

Jake graduated from Memphis Tech High School in 1948 and later enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1950. He served as a Master Sargent and a crew chief on a B-29 aircraft and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atoka.

Jake married the love of his life, Connie Dunagan Barton, in 1975. Together they shared 50 years of marriage and built a life rooted in faith, family, and community.

Jake enjoyed square dancing which was where he and Connie met. He was an avid golfer from age 15 to 80 and achieved three holes in one. He was one of the first members of Woodstock Hills Country Club (currently Mirimichi). He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, and he was known for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and his commitment to those he cared about,

Jake leaves his loving wife of 50 years Connie Dunagan Barton; sons, Carl Wayne Barton and Michael W. Barton; grandsons, John Barton and Patrick Barton; great grandchildren, Charli, Loic, and Piper Barton. Many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death; sisters, Carlene Barton Lawrence and Nellie Barton; brother, Buddy Barton; and nephew Lyle Goforth who loved him dearly.

Jake was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed and will be in our hearts forever.
