James Murphy Bishop, 92, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Baptist Desoto Hospital. He leaves behind two sons, George Randall Bishop (Michelle) and John Michael Bishop (Angela); nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Chris, Anne, Mandy, Maranda, Kristi, Dustin, Garrett and Faith; eleven great grandchildren, Gabriel, Skylar, Tatum, Rylee, Paige, Kaylee, Brandon, Justin, Alyssa, Bree, and Huck; two daughters in law, Renee Bishop and Judy Bishop; and one brother in law, Eugene Carnell. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mabel Bishop; his wife of 66 years, Pearl Elizabeth Bishop; two sons, James Robert Bishop and Jerry Wayne Bishop; three sisters, Thelma Hamilton, Virginia Haltom and Nadine Lancaster; one brother, Edward Bishop.

James was in the Army Air Corps from 1941-1945 and longtime member of Woodman of the World. James was a truck driver after serving in the military and finished his working career with the company, Valley Products. He loved being around his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. In his free time liked to play golf, tend to his flowers and banana trees, and work with his hands on whatever he could and keep his Koi ponds clean and healthy. James also loved to travel and would spend hours sitting on the flight deck of U.S.S Yorktown at Patriot Point and spending time in the Smokey Mountains searching for bears and deer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 1-2p.m. with funeral services starting at 2:00p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home East 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis, TN 38133. Burial will follow at Forest Hill South Cemetery 2545 E Holmes Rd., Memphis, TN 38118.
