Obituary

James (Jim) A. Brogdon III, 79, of Bartlett, TN, while surrounded by his loving family, went to be with his Lord & Savior on the evening of August 12, 2021. He was born in Ripley, TN on August 12, 1942 to the late James A. Brogdon Jr. and Sudie Lavern Neal Brogdon.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years - Minnie Laurie Edwards Brogdon; two children - James Brogdon IV and Samantha Jane Brogdon Shockey (Adam Shockey); one grandson - Caleb Adam Shockey; one sister - Martha Lavern Brogdon Miller (William Miller); as well as two nephews and one niece - Mark & Micah Miller, and Michelle Tillman.

He was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church in Ellendale, TN. He loved his Sunday School class, The Treasure Builders, which he was also the President of. Along with giving important dates and events, he also interjected jokes with his unique sense of humor that everyone loved and enjoyed.

Jim graduated from Ripley Highschool in 1960, and went on to attend Drone's Business College while working part-time at Sears Roebuck and Co. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1964 - 1970, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class, and happily worked for United Paint Company for thirty years afterward. Once United Paint was purchased by Sherwin-Williams Paint Co., Jim continued to work with them for another 11 years, rounding out forty-one years of incredible service at a job he loved. In his time, he worked as a clerk, sales representative, sales manager, and district sales manager.

t the age of 12 years old, Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior. He was an ordained deacon at Trinity Baptist Church of Whitehaven, TN, and was involved in coaching boy's basketball & baseball teams. He also served in the Children's Church Ministry. His life was filled with wonderful activities enjoyed with friends and family - playing ball, camping, water- skiing, fishing, visiting the Great Smoky Mountains, and of course, frequent trips to Florida for the Cardinal's Spring Training and visits to Walt Disney World.

Jim was a wonderful, caring, and compassionate man. With a wonderful sense of humor, Jim lived his life to the fullest. There was never a dull moment with him around. The most important priorities in his life were his family, his country, and honoring the Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
