James Mason Gilchrist left his earthly family July 5, 2015 to join his heavenly family. He leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Pannell Gilchrist, daughter Sandra Allen Shield, grandchildren Joseph and Heather Allen, great grandchildren Malachi and Madisyn Allen, Gryphon Thomas and Landon Innis. He also leaves his brother George (Dot) Gilchrist, brother in law Joseph (Clair) Pannell, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim joins his parents Virgil and Bessie Moore Gilchrist, brothers Gene and David Gilchrist. Jim was born November 1, 1925, in Memphis, graduated from Crawfordsville AR High School and attended Arkansas State University. He served in the US Navy on the Submarine Tender USS Griffin from 1941 to 1945. Jim was credit manager for John Morrell Meat Packing in Memphis and Sioux Falls, Sd. He was credit manager for Fineberg Packing when he was hospitalized. Jim was an avid sports fan of Arkansas State University and the University of Memphis. Jim and Dot spent most weekends attending college sporting events and boating. He also spent many weekends on the golf course with his brothers and friends. He was also host for two military reunions honoring his fellow ship mates. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with family receiving friends an hour prior. Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
