James Luther "Joe" Lloyd Sr., aged 86, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Baptist Health Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born March 16, 1927 in Memphis, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas Virgil Lloyd and Almedia and Robert F. Sample from Earle, AR. He is also preceded in death by: his wife Carolyn and son, James Luther Lloyd, Jr. Mr. Lloyd resided in Forrest City, AR in the family home for the past 21 years. He was a US Marine and served during World War II. He retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers after a career spanning 34 years, 1960-1994. He was a Shriner and Mason and a member of the Park Avenue Lodge #362 F. & A. M. York Rite Templar. He was a Methodist and a member of the St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Memphis. He is survived by a daughter, Karen J. Mamalakis of Lafayette, Louisiana, a son, Walter Manning Lloyd of Larkspur, Colorado, and a granddaughter, Acacia J. Mamalakis of Lafayette, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, January 13 at Forest Hill South with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
