J ames "J im " William Maroon , 7 5 , passed away Mon day, May 8, 2023 .
J im was the only son of J.E. and Jean Maroon born on October 18 , 19 47 . He worked in logistics and as a business owner .
Born and raised in Memphis, Jim attended Hollywood elementary and junior high schools and graduated from Tech High School . He knew his wife, Mary Jane , in the Hollywood community since junior high school . They married on August 31, 1968 , surrounded by friends and family. In 19 74 , Jim and Mary Jane had their first child, Diana . 4 years later, they welcomed their second child, Katie . He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
J im wore many titles: son, husband, dad, grandfather, accountant, friend, and, perhaps his best- known title, Coach. Jim began coaching baseball in the 8 0s with his cousin Benny Cole . They coached together for many years , winning numerous championships . When Diana began playing softball , Jim naturally became her coach, and when Katie began playing at age 5, he was her coach too. He coached both their teams for more than a decade , winning multiple championships. W hen Diana and Katie went to high school, he remained the ir best coach. Jim completed his coaching career with Katie at Bartlett High S chool where he served as assistant coach for 14 years. His years coaching influenc ed not only his own daughters, but many other young athletes.
In addition to Jim's coaching career, he also worked as a logistics supervisor and as the accountant for the family's Fantastic Sam's franchise . Though he preferred to work behind the scenes , h is daily calls to the salon to get the numbers w ere a highlight for him.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother , J.E. and Jean Maroon .
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Maroon ; his children , Diana Penny and Katie Maroon ; and his grandson , Jake Mealer .
