James Garner Owen, 85, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 at his home in Horn Lake, MS. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Clara Owen; three daughters, Deborah Hansbro (Mike), Wanda Warren(Billy), Patricia Williams(Steve); two sisters, Becky Harris and Cynthia Martin; 12 grandchildren, Randall, Jamie, Jessica, Michael Jr., Pamela, Zachery, Jack, Holli, Anthony, Cheyenne, Brooke, and Steile; 22 great grandchildren Emma, Lane, Maci, Nora, Samantha, Alexis, Hayden, Stella, Charlee, Lawson, Clark, Maggie, Sara Kate, Cash, Remie, Brayden, Jazmyn, Bentley, Audrey, Ava, River and one on the way (Adrienne Rose) ;and two great great grandchildren Jasper and Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents Carlton and Irene Owen; his brother Billy Owen; two sons Shelby Owen and Dayon Owen; and one grandchild Charley Hansbro.
Garner is a life long Christian and a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church and has traveled as far as Brazil serving the Lord to help build churches on Missionary Trips. He served in the United States Army and retired from the Memphis Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, listening and singing to music and lending a helping hand at church. Garner was a foster father for 15 years with Baptist Children's Home, a softball coach, a Boy Scout volunteer and a sound tech at Broadway Baptist Church.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandpa who was very intelligent, hardworking, caring, generous, and always knew how to have fun. We were very lucky to have him in our life he will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church with funeral services starting at 1:00p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill South Cemetery 2545 E. Holmes Rd., Memphis, TN 38118.
